How to Apply For, or Find Your Special Event Sales Tax Number

A Colorado Sales Tax License is required for Artisan Markets events. The Multiple Event Sales Tax license is preferred, but if you have a Retail Sales Tax License already, you do not need to obtain the Multiple Event license. Please list your Sales Tax License Number also known as your CAN.

List “in progress” if You Don’t Have Either Sales Tax Licenses Yet: It is your responsibility to pay your taxes for your events, and we provide guidance on how to do that.

How to Find Your Retail or Special Event Sales Tax Number Online: Login to colorado.gov/revenueonline and scroll down to see your License number.

How to Apply For a Special Event Sales Tax Number: If you are a brand new business, please visit mybiz.colorado.gov for full guidance or contact the Colorado Sales Tax Department if you have any questions at tax.colorado.gov/contact-us.

Form DR-0589 is the form you need to mail in your Special Event Sales Tax License application. You may also go into any Colorado State tax office (usually at the DMV) to obtain a physical license the same day. Visit tax.colorado.gov/special-event-license for more information.

Who is your Liability Insurance carrier?

You are free to use the insurance of your choice. Insurance for these events is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED in case a customer trips over your display, something falls on them, if your tent goes flying and hits someone, etc. You would be 100% liable for any of these instances.

Please check with your homeowner’s insurance, renters/car insurance for more options. There are also options to cover your products after an accident, theft, or weather-related events. Nothing is worse than losing your entire booth in a storm, and not having coverage.
